Unable to view zip folder contents when unzipping them on PUTTY

Hi all, I hope all is well! I'm having trouble with unzipping folders on PUTTY and I hope someone could help. Whenever I enter 'unzip FOLDER', which is within the highest hierarchy, and press 'ls' to see the contents inside, I'm still only looking at the folder one level up within the top hierarchy, like it was never unzipped. I don't know if anyone else is having problems unzipping zip files such as this but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
