Do Social Shares Get Indexed?

I see a good bit of social shares going on between
most of my profiles, however, what I can not find
is any evidence of backlinks. If someone shares a
link, would I not be able to find that?

at this point, i see almost nothing...tons of
reweets, link shares, but no proof of backlinks...

It seems social sites are designed not to index, send
you a load of spiders, some traffic, and get no backlinks out of it.
