If you had built spam backlinks a couple of years ago, your site would be penalized, now it seems Google is rewarding crappy sites with crappy back links.
For the last 2 years my site was ranking at 2nd position for my money keyword, but 2 weeks ago someone's small diet review site occupied this position. I checked their backlinks and found that they built a lot of links from forum spam posts. Most of these forums are even not relevant to diet/weight loss niche!! Also, I checked other pages...
