Are directories fading away?

About 8 years ago, there were big demand for directories, links and PageRank. In todays world of internet marketing,

• Are directories viewed as link farms in the eyes of Google?
  
• Are we seeing sunset for directories in next couple of years?

I believe DMOZ is already dead, so as many other popular web directories.
